Pakistan vs Australia Second Test Highlights: Pakistan Win by 3 wickets

(Pak vs Aus) Pakistan vs Australia: Pakistan win by three wickets and level the series 1-1. Fabulous scenes, handshakes all round and Rudi, with a tear in his eye, picks up a stump and leads the players off the field. The Pakistan team give him a souvenir T-shirt which is a lovely touch. There is a lot to like about Salman Butt and he has a very gifted young side under him. Tough tour this for Ricky Ponting and Australia, they lost the one-day series to England, lost the Twenty20 to Pakistan and could not beat Pakistan in the Tests. Ponting is yet to win a Test series in England as captain.

Paul Allott leads the presentation ceremony which begins, fittingly, with a special presentation to Rudi Koertzen – a sculpture depicting Rudi with his infamous ’slow death’ dismissal.

One again there are two men of the match. Which is odd, this spirit of cricket lark has gone too far you’d think. Shane Watson is named Australia’s man of the match, for his bowling, which, though laughable, has been very good all Test. The Pakistan man of the match is Mohammad Aamer, now he can bowl. In a brief interview he says, “when I smile it gives me confidence.” That’s the spirit of cricket.

Ricky Ponting, somewhat predictably says he wouldn’t have batted first if he knew the wicket would have done so much on the first day and congratulates Pakistan for their tense win. Tantalisingly, he says if he can keep scoring runs, he might return to England in the future.

Salman Butt thanks the crowd, his young side and all the supporters back home who haven’t had the chance to see the team. He says that if this young side can perform like this under these conditions they could go on to become world beaters. He might be right as well. I’ll say it again, Salman Butt is an awfully suave fellow – reminiscent, actually, of a certain Imran Khan.

Hugely entertaining match which finished with a hugely entertaining morning, to try and get a flavour of it all check out Andrew Miller’s bulletin. That will be all from me today, Pakistan are back in action soon, beginning their four-Test series against England at Trent Bridge on Thursday, so I hope you’ll join us then. If this game was anything to go by, it will be an absolute cracker.

Australia 88 & 349
Pakistan 258 & 180/7 (50.4 ov)
Pakistan won by 3 wickets

Muttiah Muralitharan took 800 wickets in his test career.

Day 3:India vs Srilanka Highlights 1st Test, India vs Srilanka Highlights Day 3

Day 3:India vs Srilanka Highlights 1st Test: Srilanka won the toss and elected to bat first and score 256/2, Day 1:Kumar Sangakkara and Tharanga Paranavitana sealed well-compiled tons as the hosts galloped towards gaining complete control before rains brought an early end to the day’s play.

The manner of Sangakkara’s dismissal captured the spirit of the day. The ball was a long hop from Sehwag and Sangakkara pulled it straight to Sachin Tendulkar at deep midwicket. It seemed the only way the Indians were going to buy a wicket and it was aptly gifted to Sehwag, the best Indian spinner on view.

Day 2: “Rain washes out second day” with centuries from captain Kumar Sangakkara and opener Tharanga Paranavitana, who is still batting. With Mahela Jayawardene giving Paranavitana company, and Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews and Prasanna Jayawardene to follow, things look bleak for the Indian team. Spectators who had flocked to the Galle International Stadium on the first day in the hope of watching Muttiah Muralitharan bowl in his final Test were made to wait longer. Play is scheduled to resume at 9.30am on Tuesday

Day 3: Sri Lanka retained control on the first Test. 115-run partnership with Herath and Malinga was wonderful, because it was unexpected. Herath impressed by the number of high quality images and defense Malinga alternately joyous and angry with the effort. In his first six deliveries, Herath had declared his intention two borders. Excellent shot of his stay was a wonderful six out Abhimanyu Mithun: Herath and smoking a short-term delivery in the long run. It was certainly not shot the lower-order batsman.

Ishant Sharma impressed, Lasith Malinga thrilled and Rangana Herath became an unlikely hero. Ishant had everyone spellbound in the morning with captivating seam bowling but Herath and Malinga – yes, you read right – stole his thunder with entertaining half-centuries

India lost Gautam Gambhir with the second ball of their innings, Rahul Dravid a mistake in the evaluation of a term, and Sachin Tendulkar selection gone wrong, and it was left to Virender Sehwag to keep them alive. He did his best, but the day belonged to Sri Lanka and in particular to an unlikely duo of drummers lower order.

Sehwag made a classy 85 but it seemed just a footnote on a strange day. India score 140/3 before day 3 called off.

India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test Day 2 Highlights, Day 2 canceled

After losing 22 acquisitions in the first day because of the rain, the second day of the first test between Sri Lanka and India in Galle has been canceled, without a single ball to be played in the rain and a persistent field resulting Outside wet prevented any action whatsoever. Sri Lanka resume sleeves, well above procedure Paranavitana Tharanga unbeaten on 110 and Jayawardene to keep him company Mahele unbeaten in eight. Yesterday, the captain Kumar Sangakkara shared a 181-run partnership with Paranavitana, taking Sri Lanka to a strong 256 / 2 at stumps.

With a damp square and a slippery outfield on offer it is going to require quite an effort from the groundsmen to ensure that play starts on time tommorrow. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who already has a depleted squad would be wary of risking his men in the wet outfield, with the weather pundits forecasting heavy overnight rain. One player who would welcome the rest day is Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was struggling on the field yesterday battling the flu. Despite his health, Bhajji produced a creditable 17 overs and was the most economical of the Indian bowlers on show, conceding just under 2.5 runs per over.

The pitch is offering little assistance to the bowlers, and Mahela Jayawardene in particular will be anxious to get out in the middle tomorrow, having notched up two doubles hundreds and two additional scores in excess of 150 on this ground. Should he come to the party, the Indians could be in for a very long day in the field.

However, all that depends on the weather, and with heavy showers predicted for the next two days as well, this match seems to be going nowhere with already 112 overs lost. The question that is going to be asked to the Sri Lankan Cricket Board and the BCCI is why schedule international cricket during the peak monsoon period of the island nation.

Not only is it frustrating for cricket fans, but with Muttiah Muralitharan retiring after the Galle Test, one hopes we are not in for an anticlimax with the 38-year-old ace spinner’s career ending sitting in the pavilion. With Murali just requiring 8 wickets to reach the magic 800 figure, he would only have the cricket administrators to blame should he not get a chance to reach that milestone.

England Vs Australia T20 World Cup Final Preview

The cricketing rivalry between Australia and England dates back to the 19th century. While the contest on Sunday does not have a Larwood vs Bradman feel to it, it is undoubtedly the biggest stage the two sides have been on for a very long time. Each team has had its share of glory in the past. However, for a major part of the last two decades, Australia has been the dominant side. But the teams have been more evenly matched in recent times. England reclaimed the Ashes in August 2009, but Australia has managed to maintain the upper-hand in the limited overs format. This time around though both the teams are on a roll and there is not much that separates them on paper. Thus, cricket lovers around the world should be witness to a high intensity clash for the ultimate prize in the shortest format of the game.

After the semi-finals in St. Lucia, the action will return to the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The wickets in the previous matches at this venue have been a bit on the bouncier side and something similar will be expected in the final. The boundaries are not the biggest either and hence we could have a high-scoring contest in store.

Barring the semi-final against Pakistan, Australia has virtually steam-rolled every obstacle that has come in their way. They have played the same eleven in each and every match. The players seem to well aware of their respective roles in the team and more often than not, they have successfully come up with what has been expected from them. Hence, the same XI should in all probability walk out to the park to battle for the title.
